THE CHALLENGE

Well, as an avid Oldsmobile owner and enthusiast, as well as being Olds secretary for Motorvatin'USA, an auto club based here in the United Kingdom, I felt I had to put pen to paper, or at least fingers to keyboard as it were, and offer some thoughts on why it would be a good idea to donate this Rocket to a good ol' boy from the other side of the pond.

Thinking that the owner would never want the car to leave its country of origin a reply was not expected. But how wrong can you be. About two weeks later I received a letter from a Rocky Kemp of Clinton, Louisiana saying that there was good and bad news.

The good news, for him at least, was that he had decided to keep the car, this was also the bad news, for me that is.  He explained that the vehicle was being donated because his long time illness did not allow him to undertake a restoration so the aforementioned ad was placed.  Following this however he had taken a turn for the better and had decided to go ahead with the restoration himself, but would contact me if things changed.  I wrote back wishing him well and good luck with the rebuild.
We must then fast forward to August, I took a trip to Lansing, in Michigan for the Olds centennial celebrations.  And on my return there was another letter from Rocky to say that if I was still interested I could have and take care of the Catfish this being the adopted name of the car, if I was still interested. took him up on his                       This was an opportunity to acquire, restore and give a home to one of Olds
= most popular cars.
